WORKPLACE PENSIONS & SMALL BUSINESSES
Employers MUST Auto-Enrol Employees To A Pension
The Pensions Act 2008 set up UK Auto Enrolment which required all employers to set up a pension for their employees’. High penalties can be imposed on companies by the Pensions Regulator for non-compliance. These penalties can be significant ranging from a flat £400, £50 a day up to £10,000 a day and even imprisonment for up to two years.
Meeting Your Workplace Pension Obligations.
Regardless of the size of your business, your employees MUST be enrolled to a pension – subject to them fitting the following criteria;
• they are classed as a ‘worker’
• they are aged between 22 and State Pension age
• they earn at least £10,000 per year
• they usually (‘ordinarily’) work in the UK
Employers must not unfairly dismiss or discriminate against an employee for being in a workplace pension scheme nor encourage or force an employee to opt out.
